Am I breaking any rules removing my tree?

There is a lot to think about with legalities regarding tree removal, different cities have different rules for tree removal and some will fine you if the proper paperwork and permitting isn't completed prior to having a tree service perform the removal.

Below are some questions to ask yourself about your tree prior to having it cut.

1) Do you belong to an HOA? If so does the association have rules regarding tree removal and possible replacement of a tree if removed.
2) Does the city you live in require a tree removal permit? If so what is required to obtain the permit, like Arborist reports or site maps of the property etc.
3) If you live in the city or unincorporated areas there will be different rules, best to check the county regulations on tree removal if living outside of the city limits.
4) What is the species and size (DBH - Diameter At Breast Height) of your tree? The species and size of tree can sometimes indicate a protected tree or even a nuisance tree.
